A golden Zippo lighter with a spiderweb design.

History

The lighter is delivered to The Magnus Institute by Breekon & Hope in MAG 35 - Old Passages. John is out of his office when they arrive so Martin Blackwood receives the package in his stead. He places it in John’s desk and tells John about it.

John forgets about the delivery and does not open it until the next week, when Timothy Stoker asks about it in MAG 36 - Taken Ill.

In MAG 39 - InfestationSasha James mentions John having the lighter.

In MAG 91 - The Coming Storm, John has the lighter in his bag when Daisy brings him to the forest to execute him.

In MAG 111 - Family BusinessGerard Keay remarks on the lighter’s design, asking if John is a “spider freak”.

In MAG 136 - The Puppeteer, Daisy similarly remarks on it and asks where he got it.

In MAG 162 - A Cosy Cabin, Martin mentions the lighter in passing.

In MAG 197 - ConnectedAnnabelle Cane reveals that the lighter is an anchor of The Web’s power that has allowed The Web and its Tape Recorders to track John. She also intends for it to be used to blow up The Archives as part of her plan to move The Entities to a new dimension.

In MAG 199 - Seeing it Through, John steps out of the tunnels to have a smoke, and uses the lighter. Georgie joins him, mentioning she took up smoking again, and asks if she can hang onto the lighter. John absently agrees
